The new Monarch 5 still provides Nikon's hallmark high-tech precision optics, but it has an all-new design. The rubber armour provides high shock resistance and an anti-slip, comfortable grip, and the lightweight body uses cutting-edge fiberglass-reinforced Polycarbonate Resin. The long eye relief provides a clear field of view, even for eyeglass wearers, and it has very close focusing distance (2.5m). The body may be new, but it's still filled with the same high-grade technology that's a signature of the Monarch range. The extra-low dispersion (ED) glass compensates for any chromatic errors, providing brighter, clearer viewing. All the lenses and highly-reflective prisms are multi-layer coated for brighter images and more natural colours. It's fog-free (filled with nitrogen gas) and waterproof (up to 1m for 5 minutes). The eco-glass optics are free of lead and arsenic, and are used for all lenses and prisms. The turn-and-slide rubber eyecups have a multi-click fix, and there's a flip-down objective lens cap.
