Care Guide: Technical Shell Jackets

These come with a tag detailing the washing instructions, but there are a few rules you can follow. Before washing it by hand or putting it into a washing machine, make sure the jacket is zipped up (pockets too if possible), and then use a mild detergent (we recommend Nikwax Tech Wash). Liquid detergents are better than powder ones, as certain powder detergents can affect the water repellant finish on the jacket. When washing, always use cold water. If you’re using a washing machine, choose a gentle cycle with a double rinse to remove all the detergent. Steer clear of high temperature tumble dryers. Rather put it on a hanger and let it dry totally before storing. Don’t ‘dry’ wash them, and don’t use bleach or fabric softeners. If you need to revive the water repellant finish on your jacket, apply a light spray of the Nikwax TX Direct Spray when the jacket is dry.

Care Guide: Fleece Jackets

For detailed washing instructions, read the tag inside the collar or inner side seam. When washing fleece, use cold water and a mild detergent. Heat and friction can destroy the small, synthetic fibres within the fleece, which in turn affects the quality of your fleece jacket, so don’t use high temperatures when washing or drying your jacket. If you’re using a washing machine, zip the jacket (and pockets if possible) up and then turn it inside out to prevent pilling and the zip scratching the washing machine drum. If you are washing it as part of a washing load, pair it with clothes of roughly the same fabric and weight to avoid pilling. It should be a gentle, low heat washing cycle, or alternatively, you can do a hand wash. Don’t use bleach, fabric softener or any other strong chemicals, and don’t iron these garments.

Care Guide: Softshell Jackets

For washing instructions, read the tag inside the collar or inner side seam. With these jackets, you need to look after the outer fabric, as it contains a water repellant coating. The more your jacket is used, the more soil and other objects accumulate and can affect the performance of this finish. To revive this layer, clean the jacket thoroughly with a liquid detergent (Nikwax Tech Wash) in a regular washing machine in a gentle, cold water cycle. Check the label to see whether it can be air dried or tumble dried. If the instructions recommend using a tumble dryer, choose a medium heat and make sure all the zips, pockets and Velcro openings are closed. If you need to revive the water repellant layer on the jacket, make sure it’s dry before lightly applying the Nikwax TX Direct Spray – visit your nearest Cape Union Mart to find out more.

Care Guide: Technical Shell Pants

All products come with a tag detailing the washing instructions, but there are a few rules you can follow. Before washing by hand or putting it into a washing machine, turn it inside out and check that all the pockets are empty. Use a mild detergent (we recommend the Nikwax Tech Wash) and cold water. Liquid detergents are better than powder ones, as certain powder detergents can affect the water repellant finish on the pants. When washing, always use cold water and if you’re using a washing machine, choose a gentle cycle with a double rinse to get all the detergent out of the pants. Steer clear of high temperature tumble dryers, rather put it on a hanger and let it dry completely before storing. Don’t ‘dry’ wash them, and don’t use bleach or fabric softeners. If you need to revive the water repellant layer, make sure it’s dry before lightly applying the Nikwax TX Direct Spray.

Great Jacket, just don't bend over when its raining because you WILL get wet thanks to the vent running across the back of the jacket that does not have a sufficient overlap. Had to pack up a tent in a downpour in December. By the time I was done my back was soaked due to the rain running into the vent. Otherwise this jacket has served me well in heavy weather. .
