Cape Union Mart is a dynamic fast growing retailer that has expanded from a small operation to one that currently employs over 1500 people. The Company is focused on the development of our staff, and place much emphasis on individual growth. Numerous training schemes have been implemented to better our employees' knowledge and skills.

Career Openings
QUALITY CONTROL TECHNOLOGIST - HEAD OFFICE
As the QC Technologist you will be responsible for upholding and enhancing the company’s strict quality standards, and adding value to our brand reputation as a result.
Your key responsibilities amongst others will be:
- Draw up the development spec to the requirements of the buyer -
- Highlight any potential Quality issues with the style.( fit/fabric/trims/branding)
- Fabric minimum specs to be accessed and communicated on development specs
- Communicate with suppliers all correspondence relating to the fit and QC of the materials
- Communicate to suppliers the Company’s Quality expectations.
- Develop and improve existing base blocks and fits. Body measurements across all brands need to be standardized
- First fit – to be fitted with Buyer, and communicated to suppliers
- PP – fitted with buyer – sealed by technologist ( and kept with Technologist )-all communication and confirmation to proceed into Bulk is Technologist’s responsibility
- Bulk samples to be check against PP and signed off –
- Bulk sample to be sent to DC for auditors to check against.
- Auditors in DC communicate with the technologist if there is an issue with Bulk styles deviating from seal ( then elevated to Buyer/sourcing /manager) .
- To develop and regularly review clothe, fabric and trims quality standards, ensuring that these standards are documented and communicated internally and externally.
- To regularly monitor the quality standards of delivered goods to stores, customer returns & the quality standards of goods within the stores of our major competitors.
- To provide technical support to suppliers as necessary
- To monitor delivered quality standards via regular store visits.
- To stay abreast of technical developments within the industry.
To apply you will need to:
- Have a relevant technical qualification (degree/diploma) (essential).
- Have 4-5 years hard and soft goods knowledge and technical working experience in a manufacturing environment (essential).
- Have an understanding of clothe, fabric and trims quality standards and requirements (essential).
- Have an understanding of clothe, fabric and trims quality standards and requirements (advantageous).
- Have cloth, fabric and trims knowledge (advantageous).
- Have knowledge of and experience with clothe, fabric and trims in a manufacturing environment (advantageous).
- Have knowledge of and experience with clothe, fabric and trims in a manufacturing environment (advantageous).
- Have experience in a retail environment (advantageous).
- Have the ability to use initiative and make decisions and to communicate with senior people internally and externally (essential).
- Have the ability to work independently and have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail (essential).
- Be an assertive and practical teamplayer with a strong ability to meet deadlines and the ability to handle conflict situations (essential).
- Be able to multi-task in a highly pressurized environment (essential).
- Be in possession of a valid Code 8 Drivers License (essential); travel may be required.
